Tahoe - June 2010

We took a mini vacation to Tahoe this summer to enjoy the fresh air and views. Of course Zach got to screw around with the cousins and lots of swimming in.

Here the men are, in the midst of a wind storm!

Swing Time

Zach LOVES the swings. We try and get out of the house every day, which most of the time it's trips to the park where the baby swings are always waiting for us.

Happy Chinese New Year! 2010

Happy Chinese New Year!

This is Zach's first chinese new year and we quietly celebrated in the usual custom. Dinner at Grandma's and he got suited up in his traditional chinese baby outfit. We went around visiting temples and meeting with other family members to collect his red envelops. By the end, he was pretty beat.

Bumbo

Zach LOVES his Bumbo! Or at least we love putting him in the Bumbo to help him sit up and hang out with us.

Zach and his lovey, Tigger.
He sits on the table while I'm cooking in the kitchen and loves just hanging out and watching the action.Zach loves sitting on the couch with David to read or watch the Steelers play.

Solids

Zach is a little over 4 months and we've been starting him on rice cereal. He didn't know what to do with the substance and still finds it weird. I mix it in with his formula and get it nice and mushy. I think he needs to practice the swallowing part.

Bath Time

Giving a bath to Zach is no easy task. Trying to grasp a wet, slippery and screaming baby certainly takes finesse and coordination of an octopus. I got some pointers from my mom for some of the first time baths, but eventually got the hang of it. I don't have video of the bath taking place, but I did get some shots of him in his birthday suit.

He's gotten much better with the water and actually enjoys his bath times. He gets his hair washed and spends a bit of time splashing in the water. Here he is all clean and hair combed!

Wee morning hours

One of my favorite times during a day is in the early morning hours. Around 5AM, Zach wakes up in a pretty cheery mood. He's old enough to coo and even flash me a flirty smile before we begin our routine. I'll change and feed him and he'll usually goes back to bed. But every once in a while he'll get a little fussy from all the gas he has. Poor thing would squirm like a worm and just be plain inconsolable.
That's where David steps in. There is something about his voice, or maybe his scent that usually has Zach lulled into submission pretty quickly. Whether it's a Stevie Wonder hit or the rocking motion of his father's arms, Zach become entranced. I guess each parent has their own magic to add to the relationship with their baby. It certainly puts a smile on my face to watch the two of them connecting so beautifully.

Uncle Bill

Uncle Bill came by for a visit during one of Zach's tummy times. It's great to have my family living so close to us. Coming from a alrge family it was always a goal of mine to create that same environment for my family. Now f only I can get my brother to change some diapers.

Red Egg and Ginger

Moon Yute is what they call the celebration in the Chinese culture. The tradition began in China to introduce the child to the public and announce his chosen Chinese name. As in other countries, infant mortality rates in China were quite high prior to the medical advances of the twentieth century. A baby who reached one month of age was likely to survive, and so the event was celebrated. The color Red is for good luck and the Egg symbolizes fertility. The ginger is a cleansing herb that balances the body with the heat that is lost postpartum.
Grandma Lynn came by on Zach's one month date to light incense and bless the house. She brought along tradition foods for the event.
