Red Egg and Ginger

Moon Yute is what they call the celebration in the Chinese culture. The tradition began in China to introduce the child to the public and announce his chosen Chinese name. As in other countries, infant mortality rates in China were quite high prior to the medical advances of the twentieth century. A baby who reached one month of age was likely to survive, and so the event was celebrated. The color Red is for good luck and the Egg symbolizes fertility. The ginger is a cleansing herb that balances the body with the heat that is lost postpartum.
Grandma Lynn came by on Zach's one month date to light incense and bless the house. She brought along tradition foods for the event.
